Terry Deitz
What’s your current position?
Senior Vice President and Market Manager of Times Shamrock Media LLC. We work with local businesses to develop outstanding Radio, Outdoor, and digital marketing solutions using our four radio stations (Rock 107, Fuzz 961 Sports Radio WEJL, and 92 Mix FM) and Times Shamrock Outdoor billboards. I am in charge of all station and outdoor operations in Scranton, and also do play-by-play sports broadcasts for local high school sports.
What would you say most motivates you to do the work you do?
Helping local businesses grow by taking a creative approach to marketing. I am most passionate about sharing my experience with other business people and organizations to help them to achieve success. Making a difference in other people's lives is what drive me most whether it is through personal interaction or speaking to groups and organizations about how they become a better version of themselves through leadership and vision.
Where did you grow up, and did you go to a college/trade school after high school? I never went to college but served in the United States Navy. My time in the service helped me to shape my life by teaching me to believe in myself and in those around me. It helped me to see the person I could be when I had faith and trust in myself, my shipmates, and most of all in God.
Did you have any key mentors or people who deeply influenced who you are?
I have been blessed to have an entire bullpen of mentors. To this day, I call them my personal board of directors. I have known so many amazing people that to single any one person out would not be fair, from my parents, my first boss (Ron "Buddy" Knoebel to my current CEO Jim Loftus, each one of the people that I have met has become a fabric of this journey we call life. I appreciate everyone on them and have learned something from them all. I truly believe that every person you meet in life is a mentor; they have things to teach you to make you a better person.
How did you learn about Leadership Lackawanna?
I learned about leadership from my company, and it was suggested that I attend the executive portion of the organization. It was the first in-person event after the pandemic. To this day, we maintain friendships, and many of those people in our group of professionals have turned into additional mentors. I would recommend any of the Leadership programs to businesses in the area to help build better leaders for their organization. As a member of the Leadership Lackawanna Board, I have been able to expand my horizons and meet so many amazing people. Being able to interact with other leaders has not only provided personal benefits but also opened the door to so many new business opportunities for our company.
